HIROMI MURAI
Hiromi Murai (1999, born in China)'s work is a quest for inner peace in today's materialistic world and uses the tradition of artist as alchemist to balance of the mind and body; a unison that creates a meditative state to make - the works being the vessel in which to meditate.
She works across painting, plaster casting, and bread making—seemingly disparate acts but carry a sense of familiarity to her. Repeated actions such as stirring powders, mixing substances, and embedding organic elements to not only make something concrete but also excavate something deeper, something that is already present—memories, echoes, fragments from past.
Using plaster, flour, mineral pigments, ash, wax, and botanical ephemera she uses materials that connect her to the earth; the idea of dissolving and becoming aligned with nature.
